“Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny,” my grandfather lectured us from a rocking chair.
Some people rather dread lectures, but I have never had that feeling toward my grandfather’s talks. When he spoke those words to my cousins and I on a brisk morning in a North Carolina cabin, they remained with me.
My health journey followed those words to a T. It began as a thought when I was no older than ten, “I want to live a healthy lifestyle.” Then, I began talking about that thought and before I knew it, I was working out with my father. By the age of fifteen I had taken an online health course from Vanderbilt University. From those actions developed habits. Now, healthy living is part of my character, part of who I am. I can say with confidence: I believe I am destined to be healthy the rest of my life.
It began with a thought, a decision.
The fact you are reading this means you have already begun your health journey. At the very least, the thought is there.
