“I’ll tell you what, since you can’t pay I will make you a deal to help you out. I will give you a pass this time, but I want 20% of what you make from anyone landing on one of your spaces from now on. Deal?”
I was not looking to beat my opponents in that game of Monopoly, I simply wanted to see how wealthy I could become. Every time one of my cousins or siblings could not pay a space, I would bail them out and make another deal. Yes, at the age of twelve I had successfully built a residual income in a board game! I ended the game with every five hundred bill and most of the one hundreds as well!
Okay, so it was just a Monopoly game, but still, the entrepreneurial spirit was there.
The spirit of an entrepreneur consists of a desire to learn from failures; a willingness to work hard even when the results are not there; the ability to adapt, applying what you have learned; and a passion to create, a passion to dream!
I read articles all the time about how it takes “just the right person” to become an entrepreneur. But I am going to let you in on a little secret: entrepreneurship is not a closed community; it is an open door! As a matter of fact, that is the true beauty and heart of the entrepreneur — entrepreneurs see opportunity.
It is not about having the right person, you need the right perspective. And here’s what is exciting about that: anyone can change their perspective! Maybe you don’t learn from failures, maybe you have trouble pushing through dry patches, maybe you are not easily adaptable, maybe you have stopped dreaming. Even if that is you, I still believe you can succeed. Why? Because I know that every one of those thinking patterns can be changed.
The opportunity exist for all of us. No one is disqualified, no one is incapable.
The door is open, will you accept the opportunity?
